OPINION: Roads need urgent attention

"How do they expect to attract holidaymakers if they can’t sort out the roads?"

I was reading your front page of the Herald (July 21) over the weekend, while down in Ramsgate, and was quite surprised, that Margate is sorting its stuff out, or not.

I go down quite often, and the roads have deteriorated terribly over the last few months.
The above pics are within a stone’s throw from Margate, and are all on the main road of Ramsgate, from the Waffle House, southwards, within 2km of road. The municipality digs holes, and then leaves them to degrade.

How do they expect to attract holidaymakers if they can’t sort out the roads. Not only is it damaging vehicles, but it can be the cause of a serious accident.

Perhaps you can put these pics in the paper, and hopefully it will light a fire where it needs to be lit because they are now depending on residents and Tidy Towns to do the work for them, yet, everyone is still paying rates, for what I’m not sure.

Editor’s note: There is some good news, with promises of a R580-million upgrade of Marine Drive due to start ‘soon’.

Roads in Ramsgate aren’t looking good.
