This is a momentous year indeed, one which will see the 30th anniversary of the vote that this country has had. Back when it was a going and vibrant concern at that time, then it became a country with a democracy voted for by the people for the people and when the rot began to seep into the country’s workings.
Remember the smouldering and restrained excitement during the runup to voting day?
Then there was the patience shown by voters standing in the blazing sun waiting to make their crosses.
Of course, the outcome was as predicted and Madiba, bless him, took centre stage and the position as leader of this country and we were all ecstatic with positivity.
All was peachy. The road ahead was now cleared of obstacles and potholes and we set sail to the land of prosperity, enlightenment and positive development.
Then, alas, tragedy! The wheels fell off.
I must tell you that during my working career, I had the great fortune to work on a diamond mine.
What I learned there was that the general manager was ultimately the responsible officer, in the event of any accident or incident on the mine.
He would be required to answer to the directors and shareholders.
I feel that my country is similar in organisational structure to the mine, only a lot larger.
So, my analogy deems to ask, why is our citizen Number 1 not ultimately responsible for keeping my country in order?
Each department on the mine has a responsible head of department who reports, by chain of command, to the general manager.
Like the chain of responsibility as per government departments in my country who are answerable to Number 1.
So, does one draw conclusions that the reporting process does not work or is not even in existence or is our Number 1 citizen on his own mission and oblivious to the real breakdown of my country, for which he should ultimately called to task.
Let’s pray 2024 is the year of deliverance and healing and repair of the country.
