OPINION: Praise for clinic and hospital

"Hats off to the paramedics and hospital staff for doing a sterling job under what must be difficult circumstances."

After collapsing at home late one evening last week, I was taken by ambulance to Gamalakhe Community Clinic, where my heart was tested and my blood pressure monitored.

The following morning, I was transferred by ambulance to Murchison Hospital, where again my heart was tested. However, this time, I was also x-rayed and had extensive blood tests.

During my stay in the hospital, I was attended to by a junior doctor, and a senior doctor and had three meals a day – granted some of the dishes were strange to me but were perfectly nourishing.

And all this didn’t cost me a cent.

To those who complain about the treatment, general accommodation and meals, I would suggest they compare their stay in even the cheapest hotel.

I, personally, am extremely grateful for the functioning healthcare system we enjoy in this part of KZN.

Hats off to the paramedics and hospital staff for doing a sterling job under what must be difficult circumstances.
