OPINION: Unemployment issues… Batho Pele fails again

"Please tell me how our present government, in 30 years, has improved the situation?"

I got a shock today, I was gobsmacked today. (Written April 25)

I realised today just how politicians cannot always tell the whole story and mislead myself and my fellow South Africans.

That’s because no institutions take issue with what we are fed and put the record right. BHP is making an offer to buy part of Anglo interest in South Africa.

A learned professional was interviewed about this headline and he said that international companies generally struggle to conduct business here.

Therefore, selective disinvestment would appear to be the new trend.

This could, of course, lead to more job losses as new brooms sweep clean.

Now, leading from this…

Our great leader says a new investment is coming. Ok. Tell us more.

I am sure we would all like to hear, especially those of my fellow South Africans who are sitting at home or squatting on a dusty street corner.

Our citizen Numero Uno says unemployment is down.

Unemployment is less than during the dreaded Apartheid era? Really?

The latest figure on the news today (April 25) states unemployment at 32.1%.

I took time to check unemployment at the moment of our country getting real freedom and democracy – that is, 1994 – and the unemployment rate was 13%.

So, dear fellow South Africans, please tell me how our present government, in 30 years, has improved the situation.

Batho Pele fails again.
