I am writing to express my deep concern regarding an issue that I have observed a significant increase in, which is possibly affecting our community and needs immediate attention.
On a daily basis, we drive to and from work, Southbroom to Uvongo.
Every morning and every afternoon to evening, there are pedestrians walking alongside the N2 freeway in dangerous manners. Ie: not in single files, body parts protruding into the road, bicycle riders without helmets or aware of their movements, intoxicated individuals, including ones that urinate on the side of the road in full view of passers-by, and individuals crossing, trying to beat the oncoming traffic.
At night, it becomes too difficult to see these pedestrians, and at a speed limit of 120km/h, it becomes a danger zone.
As we know, innocent motorists become ‘criminals with a record’ should a pedestrian be struck; motorists become victims of the negligence of pedestrians.
How can we urge the local authorities to take action?
