OPINION: Residents urged to join road protest in Hibberdene this Saturday

As Ward 13 councillor, Tessa Perryman said she is tired of this ward being "the forgotten stepchild".

The R102 (P3-1) in Ray Nkonyeni Municipality runs from Port Shepstone to the N2 at Hibberdene.

The Department of Transport (DoT) has approved rehabilitation of this road up until the Umzumbe bridge – 21km, yet the original proposal was for 27km.

The worst part of this road is the last kms, in Ward 13, however this will not be getting rehabilitated.

As Ward 13 councillor I am tired of this ward being the forgotten stepchild.

We are the gateway to the South Coast, boast two Blue Flag beaches which attracts lots of tourists and holidaymakers to our area, but we are always neglected.

I have launched a petition requesting the DoT to rehabilitate the P3-1 from the Umzumbe Bridge to the N2, which shall be taken to the provincial legislature by the DA KZN spokesperson on transport, MPL Riona Gokool.

We will also holding a blue wave at the Hibberdene traffic lights this Saturday (9tth) at 10.30 to show support for this request.

I invite all residents and motorists who travel on this section of the R102 to join us. There is a prize for the best poster.

The petition will also be available for signing on the day, or you can sign it online. https://petitions.da.org.za/p/Fix-P3-1-Road
