The DA in Umkomaas welcomes the announcement of the construction of a new and expanded Waste Water Treatment Plant in the area through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP).
This development marks a significant step forward in addressing the growing needs of Umkomaas and its surrounding communities. The DA believes that the new facility will not only improve sanitation and environmental management, but also cater to the rapidly increasing population and infrastructure demands in the area.
The DA has consistently called for stronger partnerships between the private sector and the eThekwini Municipality as an effective means to tackle infrastructure backlogs and service delivery challenges. This project is a positive example of how collaboration can accelerate progress and improve outcomes for residents.
The DA further urges that residents of Umkomaas and Ward 99 be prioritised for job opportunities arising from this project. In discussions with one of the bidding companies, it was encouraging to learn of their commitment to support local schools, small businesses, and community organisations, including children’s homes, demonstrating that this initiative could have far reaching social and economic benefits beyond the construction phase.
We call for cooperation from all stakeholders to ensure the project is implemented efficiently, transparently, and with the full participation of the local community.
