What is going on with regards to road safety in this municipality?
1. A few weeks ago an attempt was made to fill up the potholes in Wingate Avenue and Alexander Avenue. Though it is now easier to use these two roads, the quality of work done is far below standard. If the filling is not too high, it is too low. Some holes in Wingate were not even fixed.
2. In Alexander Avenue travelling westwards, a low water bridge was washed away. Temporary repairs are in place and it appears that there is no willingness to do a permanent fix. It was also observed that the turn-off towards Winston Avenue is obscured by trees causing vehicles joining Alexander Avenue unable to see approaching traffic and close calls were observed.
3. Travelling down Marine Drive, the traffic lights at the Collis Road junction is out of order for months. No effort to fix it or replace it with four-way stop signs. After sundown no traffic rules (law) are abided to. Going further down, one will regularly find two traffic officers vehicles parked at the Shell next to each other, opposite Manaba Spar. Reason unknown.
4. Opposite South Coast Volkswagen, still in Marine Drive, there is incomplete road works with only one lane, which is obstructing traffic flow. This is going on for months now.
5. Speeding in general is the order of the day and for years now there is no indication by the road traffic law officers of any action.
Now for the questions:
(a) Are traffic law officers still necessary if the only thing one observes are road blocks, now and then?
(b) What is the person in charge of these persons doing? Is he or she ever leaving their office and physically checking what is going on?
(c) Why do we see a number of the traffic officers cars do not come to a stop at stop signs, but just slow down and coast on?
