University recognises tourism agent

He told Fever that bagging the awards meant that they were moving in the right direction.

Founder of Monate Outdoor Activities, Mbongeni Mthembu recently received a recognition award for being a social entrepreneur from the Mangosuthu University of Technology.
Mthembu said they focus on activities in the tourism industry.

He told Fever that bagging the award meant that they were moving in the right direction.

“We could not do without co-founder Nokuthula Mthiyane, Londeka Ndlovu (finance) and Yoliswa Mqadi (marketing ). We have nine hardworking members. We are delighted with their work,” he said.

Mthembu added that the idea of Monate Outdoor Activities came to him during the Covid-19 pandemic.

“People were forced to stay indoors and when I visited the Uvongo River, I was attracted to the scenery and bird watching. I took photos with my phone and posted on my social media platforms. After that, we talked with the team about it and we developed our trail, the Vungu River trail in Gamalakhe,” said Mthembu.

He added his career goals include having talks with the KwaMavundla Tribal Authority to work together in promoting rural and township areas.

“I also want to be one of the companies to assist students especially in tourism to do their in-service training in the future,” he said.
