Familiar face returns to head resort
The new Wild Coast Sun general manager Henry Tshegetso Boekhouer said he plans to lead the transformation plan to build a solid and sustainable operation.
Henry Tshegetso Boekhouer recently replaced Peter Tshidi as the general manager of the Wild Coast Sun.
Boekhouer first joined the Wild Coast Sun as a gaming manager in 2018; however, he began his career at Sun International in 2000.
He said working at the Wild Coast Sun was always one of his dream jobs.
“When I first worked at the resort, I got to know everyone in the community. I have remained in touch with them, so now it feels as though I’m coming home,” he said.
He explained that he initially worked for an electrical engineering company.
“After I was involved in an accident, I began to question my career and busy lifestyle. My salary dropped by half when I joined Sun City, and suddenly, I was working 24/7, but I loved it, and no two days were ever the same. Also, I didn’t need my huge salary while working at Sun City because I lived in the complex. I didn’t even need a car as I could walk to work,” he said.
He added that it paid off because soon he was promoted and his salary increased.
Boekhouer described his engineering career as very black-and-white.
“It is either on or off, right or wrong. But gaming and hospitality are a lot more nuanced. I had to adopt a ‘can-do’ attitude. I also learnt that guests come first, and winning an argument with a customer is a loss because they won’t come back. The Wild Coast Sun is Sun City by the sea and my favourite holiday destination, so now every day feels like a holiday to me,” he said.
He said his vision for the resort is to make the community feel that they are part of the business, to knit them into the fabric of the property and to give them a sense of pride and ownership in the resort.
He said he plans to lead the transformation plan to build a solid, sustainable operation to support the transformation and development of local communities and businesses.
“I will also try to live up to my motto, which is ‘to leave everything I touch better than I found it,” he said.
