Entries open for Umzumbe half marathon
Prizes to be won at the Mfundo Arnold Lushaba Half Marathon range from R500 to R10 000.
Entries for the 2025 Mfundo Arnold Lushaba Half Marathon are now open.
The marathon which has 5km, 10km, and 21.1km races will take place at Esibanini Sportsground in Mtwalume under Umzumbe Municipality on February 23 from 06:00.
Prizes range from R500 to R10 000.
According to the organiser, Emmanuel Lushaba, the marathon is open to all South Africans.
Entries close on February 17.
However, late entries can be submitted at the Umzumbe Municipal offices after the deadline and on race day at Esibanini Sportground from 04:00 to 05.30.
Lushaba said all participants will receive a medal at the end of the race.
He said the marathon was started as a fun run in 2019 and that the short-term goal includes a 42km race to make it easier for athletes to qualify for marathons.
He added that they aim to grow the marathon until people can qualify for bigger races such as the Comrades and Two Oceans marathons.
