Team Ugu wins hackathon
A Water Solutions website was developed to address water-related challenges within the community.
The Ugu district was the winner of the KZN South African Local Government Association ( SALGA) Tech Games Hackathon held in Durban last week.
The hackathon was organised in partnership with Kunene Makopo Risk Solutions and the Moses Kotane Institute.
It featured 10 municipalities which competed to develop innovative tech solutions to real-world municipal challenges.
The initiative united municipalities, industry leaders, and innovators to develop technology-driven solutions for local government challenges, enhancing service delivery and governance.
Team Ugu developed a ‘Water Solution’ website to address water-related challenges within the community.
Team Msunduzi Municipality introduced ‘Fandub’, a study portal to assist students with academic information and learning processes.
Ulundi Municipality presented the ‘Tech Teach’ website, designed to educate young people on how to use technology effectively and responsibly.
Nquthu Municipality proposed a ‘Tuck Shop Solution’ focusing on food safety and digitalising local tuck shops to foster economic growth through online platforms.
KwaDukuza Municipality presented ‘EDUGO’, a website that enhances education accessibility and student engagement.
Dundhussen Municipality worked on developing a school website to facilitate electronic data management, reduce paper usage costs, and improve transparency and communication between parents and schools.
The organisers said the innovative solutions, created by young minds, highlighted the power of digital transformation in addressing human life challenges.
“In the showcase of young talent and innovation, learners from different municipalities developed digital solutions as part of the final stage of the hackathon. These projects aim to tackle pressing issues in their respective communities through technology,” said the organisers.
