Jubilation for Oshabeni Tribal Authority

The event was held at King Misuzulu's eMashobeni Royal House at Nongoma, northern KZN.

There was much ululation and traditional Zulu dancing as Oshabeni’s Inkosi practised the most important cultural practise of the Zulu nation – known as Ukuthela Amanzi.

Inkosi Sthembiso KaZwengu Lushaba, was one of five amakhosi from KwaZulu-Natal and the only one from Ugu District, who recently performed Ukuthela Amanzi, a practise which is only conducted by His Majesty King Misuzulu kaZwelithini. Once Inkosi has practised this culture – he is a fully fledged Inkosi.

The event was held at King Misuzulu’s eMashobeni Royal House at Nongoma, northern KZN. Speaking to amakhosi and the public, King Misuzulu emphasised respect as the main tool for amakhosi to lead their tribes.

He said this is a critical practise and that sometimes there might be squabbles and fights for chieftaincy within amakhosi families. “There is not that much I can say, other than respect your people first. God will never give more than what you can carry. As you are here for Ukuthela Amanzi, this is the beginning of the way forward, until the end,” said the King.

He also told amakhosi that they are the slaves of their people because they work for the betterment of the people they are leading.

“There is no way you would live a flashy life while your people are suffering,” said King Misuzulu.

KZN MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Reverend Thulasizwe Buthelezi said: “We will ensure that amakhosis are the mirror of respect and working for the community. Amakhosis’ arrival at the Royal House is a blessing, we thank God for our time with the King who loves his people,” said Buthelezi.

He added: “This cultural practise was published as law in KZN, in order to stop those who may take chances (of chieftaincy). Therefore, anyone who has not passed through the Royal House has no right to call himself an Inkosi.

Inkosi Lushaba said he will always be part of the Zulu Royal House.
