DA demands services on Mandela Day
According to DA Umuziwabantu Municipality councillor, Victor Mbatha, they have been waiting for service delivery for far too long, and they saw it fit to voice their grievance on this particular day.
The DA in Umuziwabantu sub-region had little to celebrate on Mandela Day last Friday.
While millions of South Africans celebrated this day in honour of the first democratically elected president in South Africa, the DA said there was little to cheer for, as service delivery needs to be prioritised in the town of Harding and surroundings.
According to DA Umuziwabantu Municipality councillor, Victor Mbatha, they have been waiting for service delivery for far too long, and they saw it fit to voice their grievance on this particular day.
They gathered in the town, where they carried placards with different messages, but all demanding services. Some read: “We demand water not excuses. Stop leaks stop lies. No excuses just solutions. Fix the crisis now.”
“We have a crisis in Umuziwabantu. Roads are full of potholes, but at least we see some work being done to maintain the town’s roads. We need the municipality to provide all relevant services to the people,” said Mbatha.
He also said the water supply is poor in the area, and it’s nothing new to the authorities. “It has been ages since the people of Harding received a proper water supply. Since we have councillors who sit in the Ugu council, we have engaged them to table our concerns in the meetings,” added Mbatha.
When asked if a formal complaint about these concerns has been sent to the relevant authorities, Mbatha’s response was not as yet.
