Ugu provides water projects update

The municipality is committed to enhancing water infrastructure and building sustainable service delivery across the district.

Ugu District Municipality says that the Umzimkhulu Bulk Water Augmentation Scheme Phase 2 Project is progressing steadily.

This project will help the Bhobhoyi treatment works to function better and make it easy to provide water in areas that feed from this plant.

The completion date is anticipated to be March 30, 2026.

According to the municipality, once this project is completed, it will strengthen and improve water supply systems connected to the Bhobhoyi scheme, ensuring greater reliability and consistent access to clean water for surrounding communities.

Furthermore, this initiative forms part of the municipality’s ongoing commitment to enhancing water infrastructure and building sustainable service delivery across the district.

Another big project is the Nomakhanzana pipeline project that will make life easy for the community which has been struggling without water, and has held protests recently.

The mayor, Sikhumbuzo Mqadi, returned to the community to provide an update, fulfilling an earlier commitment.

The meeting was constructive, with the community unanimously agreeing that the current project is vital and should continue without interruption.

The spokesperson for the municipality, Zimbini Mpurwana, says that this intervention will ensure a fair and consistent water supply to the area before December.

The community also expressed interest in obtaining private household connections once the new pipeline is commissioned, an encouraging development that will not only enhance service access, but also contribute to increased municipal revenue.
