Switch to new KZN number plates before November 30
Motorists who fail to do so, will be fined.
KwaZulu-Natal MEC of Transport, Siboniso Duma, appeals to motorists to obtain new licence disks and number plates for their vehicles before the end of November.
He warned that those who fail to do so, will be fined.
Duma’s department introduced the new KZN number plates on December 1, 2023, as a new licence system to align the province with the national numbering system.
Earlier this year, the department indicated that new registration numbers are automatically generated once the vehicle licence needs to be renewed, and that when a motorist purchases a new licence disk, it will have a new registration number.
Duma added for those with personalised licence numbers, they also need to purchase and fit blue on white licence plates.
“Motorists should go to their nearest registering authorities and fill out the relevant forms and obtain their licence disks. Once this is done, new plates must be purchased and fitted to the vehicle, and insurance and tracking companies must be informed.”
He emphasised that driving with old number plates after November 30, will be in violation of the National Road Traffic Act.
