Margate rugby academy up and running again
The leadership group hopes to build on the foundation laid by Dougie Haralambous.
There is a new dawn or era for the Southern KZN Rugby Academy, which will re-open next year.
The academy, which looks to make a difference in the lives of young rugby players across the country, is officially back and now under new leadership with an exciting new vision, where rugby excellence meets future readiness.
Led by Christo Henderson, one of South Africa’s most experienced rugby developers, the academy can build further on the solid foundation laid by Dougie Haralambous – a well-known rugby man and businessman on the South Coast.
“It will be a privilege to continue with Dougie’s dream with the development of rugby on the South Coast,” said Christo.

Juno Fourie is the chairperson of the board of directors and needs no introduction to the local community, with his extensive involvement in the sport, both locally and provincially.
The academy will provide three-star beach accommodation, a professional gym environment, world class coaching with direct exposure to provincial rugby, accredited academic qualifications with full tutoring support, and expert strength, fitness and conditioning programmes.
Life coach and mentor Theuns Steenkamp will play a major role in preparing players for life on and off the field.
Coaching and referee certificates can open career paths in rugby beyond only playing the game.
The academy will also cater for women who may want to join.
It will be based in Margate and officially run by the SKZN rugby sub-union. It is aligned with the KZN Rugby Union., the Hollywoodbets Sharks, and SARU players.
The youngsters won’t only train for rugby, they will build qualifications, careers and a future.
Players are also assisted with an accredited entrepreneurship programme which will enable them to successfully establish a rugby business.
