Ugu wins big at provincial disability games in Durban
These achievements are a huge success for the district which has not performed well at the games for many years.
The journey has been good for teams representing Ugu at the KZN Provincial Disability Games held in Durban last week.
Team Ugu returned as provincial champions in football. They also won two gold medals in athletics and a silver in the women’s netball.
These achievements are a huge success for the district which has not performed well at the games for many years. This has also brought smiles to everyone who supports sports for people living with disabilities in the district.

Winning football coach, Bongumusa Mzobe, said history was made as it was the first time at the competition that the coaches for all sporting codes were people living with disabilities . He said it was also the first time that the committee was made up of people living with disabilities.
“History was made, for the first time we had disabled coaches coaching disabled people. Also, in previous years, Ugu placed last when the results of the different sporting codes were combined and the winners chosen. This year we placed fifth out of all 11 districts. For us, this is an achievement.”

Meanwhile Ugu District Municipality released a statement, commending the winners.
“Their exceptional performance has elevated Ugu district on the provincial stage, reinforcing our belief in the limitless potential of persons with disabilities when given the right platform and support.”
