Coastal trials for top cricketers

The trials offer a chance for local cricketers to display their talents.

There’s been a summer break but now some serious cricket is in store for the region’s top players.

The Rural South squad of 14 will take on the Rural North squad in trials in Durban this weekend (Saturday and Sunday).

After these two days of cricket, a Dolphins KZN Rural team will be selected to play in the CSA Rural Week in February.

Seven players from Southern KZN are joined by seven players from Umzinto in the Rural South squad.

The Southern KZN players are captain Jayden Scholtz, Gareth Bishop, Abdullah Dhudaht, Siyethaba ‘Vuva’ Gumede, Christiaan Louwies, Uminathi Ndleko and Liam Scholtz.

The Umzinto players are Jordan Gopaul, Justin Gopaul, Jerashen Maharaj, Nkosinathi Muthwa, Kaylin Naidoo, Sahl Peerbhay and Shivaar Sivpersadh.

Non-travelling reserve is Lashay Govender.

The squad to go to the CSA Rural Week will comprise 13 players and three non-travelling reserves.

Meanwhile, on the local front, there is plenty of cricket coming up with the Skzn 30 over league due to start this Sunday, across three divisions.

Winners of the recent T20 league were Port Shepstone CC (Division 1), Punjab XI (Division 2) and Vikings B (Division 3).
