KZN Mid-South Coast provides great ‘return on lifestyle’

One of the region’s key attractions is its year-round subtropical climate.

The return on lifestyle is arguably the biggest drawcard for many choosing to live on the KZN Mid-South Coast, thanks to its exceptional natural assets that promote year-round outdoor living.

Blue Flag beaches, lush coastal forests, world-class dive sites and protected nature reserves ensure residents are never far from either the tranquillity of nature or the exhilaration of the sea.

One of the region’s key attractions is its year-round subtropical climate. With the warm Indian Ocean moderating temperatures, residents enjoy mild winters averaging around 20°C and warm summers ranging between 24°C and 32°C. This climate actively supports an outdoor lifestyle, delivering well-documented benefits for both physical and mental well-being – including improved cardiovascular and respiratory health, enhanced memory and stronger bones.

The KZN Mid-South Coast offers endless opportunities to embrace the outdoors. Walking, hiking and cycling along scenic trails and through coastal forests are everyday options, while swimming, paddling and surfing in the Indian Ocean provide both exercise and relaxation. Living close to the sea naturally encourages movement and vitality, with regular sunshine supporting calcium absorption and helping maintain healthy blood pressure.

While lifestyle remains the greatest return, property owners are also seeing impressive financial rewards. Since its launch, Renishaw Hills – a mature lifestyle village in Scottburgh within the 1 300-hectare Renishaw Coastal Precinct – has delivered a remarkable 94% growth in property values. This represents a compound annual growth rate of nine percent, significantly outperforming leading property markets and even traditional investment channels such as the JSE.

“Renishaw Hills has been one of the standout performers in both KwaZulu-Natal and national property markets,” said Barto van der Merwe, managing director of Renishaw Property Developments, a subsidiary of JSE-listed Crookes Brothers Limited.
