KZN cabinet members conduct outreach on South Coast

At a stakeholder engagement session, presentations on the annual performance plan, the draft budget and key Ugu District programmes were discussed.

KZN Cabinet members visited all corners of the South Coast with their community outreach programme recently.

Members of the Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Portfolio Committee took their outreach programme to Umuziwabantu Local Municipality, where a stakeholder engagement session was held in the town hall.

Stakeholders received detailed presentations on the Annual Performance Plan, the Draft Budget and key Ugu District programmes, ensuring that communities remain at the centre of planning, budgeting and implementation.

Meanwhile, MEC for Social Development Mbali Shinga began her journey with a visit to Gabangezwe iDwalalesizwe High in Izingolweni, where a donation of school uniforms were handed over to vulnerable children.
Speaking at Xhonywa Primary at KwaNzimakwe, near Port Edward, Shinga, said the school visits were under the Social Relief of Distress programme.

“We started in Izingolweni where we handed over 61 school uniforms to learners. Some 39 learners from Xhonywa also benefited and they were super excited. These are schools in rural areas, which are sometimes forgotten. The parents are also relieved because with the little money they receive, they will buy other necessities.”

Also, the Transport Portfolio Committee, led by Mafika Mndebele and Super Zuma, reaffirmed its commitment to safe learner transport and reliable road infrastructure.

The committee said: “The programme started with learner transport monitoring at Inkanyezi YaMachi Primary and Gabangezwe Secondary, placing the safety, dignity, and punctuality of learners at the centre of government action.”
