Kidnapped Murchison family found safe

The victims were released by suspects who were holding them at a residence in Umlazi.

Six family members who were allegedly kidnapped and robbed of their belongings at their home in Murchison on February 6, were found safe at Chesterville police station in Durban later the same day.

The kidnapping ordeal occurred in the early hours of the morning after a 69-year-old woman was confronted by a group of men who introduced themselves as police.

Once the men entered the house, they got everyone up and took their cellphones. The family was then taken to the suspects’ vehicles which had been parked a short distance away from the house.

Provincial police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda said the victims were released by the suspects who were holding them at a residence in Umlazi.

“It is reported that the suspects realised police were onto them and released the victims unharmed. They found their way to Saps Chesterville,” said Netshiunda.

The search for the kidnappers continue.
