Future champs impress at Umzumbe Surf Club
The young surfers are steadily building their confidence and skills.
Three young surfers are already making waves at the Umzumbe Surf Club after only a few months in the water.
Siphesihle Mpanza (8), Elihle Mfeka (10) and Nolwazi Ginqi (9) joined the club about three months ago and are already standing up on their boards and showing impressive progress.
The club is run by coach Dumisani Radebe, a familiar face on Umzumbe Beach, who also serves as the head lifesaver. Radebe is passionate about introducing young people to surfing and teaching them about the ocean.
“I enjoy teaching the youth as it takes them off the streets and away from drugs,” he said.

The girls practise surfing on weekends and say they love spending time in the water. All three enjoy swimming and learning new skills in the ocean.
Their excitement was clear when they spoke about the thrill of standing up on their boards for the first time – a moment every surfer remembers.
Radebe said he has a vision of turning the trio into champions and plans for them to start competing in surfing competitions next year.
With his guidance and plenty of time in the water, the young surfers are steadily building their confidence and skills
