Port Shepstone Regional Hospital bids farewell to medical manager
Of her 25 years in service, 18 years were dedicated to Port Shepstone Regional Hospital.
The exemplary leadership of Dr Babusisiwe Dlamini was praised at a farewell event to celebrate the end of her distinguished 25-year career in the public healthcare sector recently.
Reflecting on her career, Dlamini shared that she joined the Department of Health in January 2002, beginning her service at Addington Hospital before moving to Taylor Bequest District Hospital in Matatiele.
Her leadership journey progressed when she was appointed as medical manager at Port Shepstone Regional Hospital in 2008, and later elevated to senior medical manager in 2015. Of her 25 years in service, 18 years were dedicated to Port Shepstone Regional Hospital.
The hospital’s PRO, Phumza Morai, added speakers paid tribute to Dlamini’s leadership, particularly, during the challenging Covid-19 period.

“Her extensive managerial oversight spanned multiple medical disciplines including internal medicine, obstetrics and gynaecology, anaesthetics, surgery, emergency and trauma, paediatrics, mental health, family medicine, and forensic medicine. In addition, she played a pivotal role in guiding allied health services such as radiography, pharmacy, social work, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech and audiology, and dietetics.”
The hospital CEO, Zakanzima Mbethe, also conveyed his sincere appreciation to Dlamini’s contribution to the healthcare system, acknowledging the impact she made over the years.
The function was organised by hospital-based staff members Dr Azipheli Ngongoma, Vuyokazi Nogaya, and Nokubonga Madlala, with décor by Portia Mthembu.
It brought together a diverse group of attendees, including members of Dlamini’s family, district director Linda Dlamini, clinical heads of units, medical officers, specialists, hospital executive management, administrative personnel, and colleagues from surrounding healthcare facilities.
