Taxi boss gunned down in cold blood in Bhobhoyi

Police have opened a murder case for investigation.

Many condolence messages have been posted on social media for well-known taxi owner, Mavuka ‘Majimbos’ Khowa (53), who was shot dead outside his Bhobhoyi home on March 26.

He was described as helpful and praised for ‘Umdlalo wamanzi’, an annual taxi event held at the Ugu Sport and Leisure Centre, and that it will not be the same without him.

According to police, a case of murder has been opened for investigation at Port Shepstone Saps.

“It is alleged that the victim (Khowa) was sitting outside his residence when he was shot several times by an unknown person who then fled on foot. It is suspected that a white vehicle was used as a getaway vehicle. The victim was taken to a local hospital for treatment, but he succumbed to his injuries.” His wife Licky Khowa described him as someone who loved his family dearly and who made sure that they never went to bed hungry.

She added when she arrived at the scene her husband had been taken to the hospital, and when she got there he was declared dead.

“He had never complained about or reported anything that could have led to his death. My husband did not have enemies and had never fought with anyone.” The chairperson of both the South African National National Council Ugu region and Zamokuhle Long Distance Association, Lizwi Maphumulo, said Khowa had been a member of the association for at least five years.

Maphumulo added that according to his knowledge Khowa had no issues with anyone, especially in the taxi industry.

“We hope that whoever the culprit is, he is found and punished.”
