Ali Raza heroics sees Punjab XI home

Tail ender Ali Raza saved them with 33 not out off 22 balls.

Punjab XI won Division 2 of the Southern KZN 30 Over Cup in a low scoring thriller.

Opponents Bizana batted first and were bowled out for 67 in 13.4 overs.

Rana Azhar made 19 off 24 balls while chief wicket takers were Asim, with 4-11 (4) and Ikram 3-12 (3).

In response Punjab scraped over the line, making 70 for eight in 12.1 overs, to win by two wickets.

They were in all sorts of trouble before tail ender Ali Raza saved them with 33 not out off 22 balls.

Only M Afzal 12 (8) and Hafiz Arshad 10 (14) managed to get to double figures before that.

Rana Azhar bowled beautifully to take 5-21 (5.1) and was assisted by Muhammad Tayyab, with 2-15 (2), but they were trumped by Raza’s innings.

Division 1 semi-finals still need to be played, with Port Shepstone Country Club playing Kokstad Bombay and Legends taking on Vikings.

Division 3 will see Wolfpack play the Challengers this Sunday.
