Local artists gathered at Senzi’s Lounge in Margate for a Creatives Day recently, which sought to unite them to inspire each other for growth and better opportunities.

The event was described as a powerful wave of creativity and conversation. Thanks was extended to the host, Farm 4031, as it brought together emerging and established artists.

Some of the creative businesseses in attendance were IN.TYM, 4Da Record, Esayidi Fashion School, Inkanyezi Models House of Glamourous, Behind The Lens, Xquzit Photography. Kuvuka Water sponsored the day of expression, learning, and connection.

Founded by South Coast performer and visionary, Londiwe Cele, Creatives Day was born out of a need to bridge the gaps in knowledge, collaboration, and networking among young creatives in the Ugu region. Cele said this year’s successful event centered around the thought-provoking theme of substance abuse, an often uncomfortable, but necessary topic within creative spaces.

“The platform encouraged open dialogue aimed at dismantling the longstanding stigma that artists must endure pain or rely on substances to produce meaningful work. Attendees were treated to a showcase of talent across multiple disciplines, including theatre, music, poetry, visual arts, and crafts. Beyond the performances, the event fostered engagement through an audience discussion on substance abuse and the pressures faced by artists,” said Cele.

According to Cele, the conversation was led by Angiyl of With My Tribe Podcast, creating a reflective space for dialogue. The programme featured contributions from industry leaders and public sector representatives, with the Government Communication and Information Systems assistant director Khanyiso Seyisi delivering a keynote address on the importance of branding and effective communication for the creatives.

Also in attendance were representatives from the Department of Sport Arts and Culture, Arts Africa Skill Development and Magaga Media and Communications.

“My vision for the future is to establish Creatives Day as an annual platform that not only celebrates artistic expression but also fosters collaboration and unity among South Coast creatives. As the curtains closed on this year’s event, one message stood clear that through unity, dialogue, and shared purpose, the creative community can challenge harmful narratives and build a more supportive and sustainable future for artists,” said Cele.
