Political class in Bhobhoyi educates young leaders
The gathering was to educate and groom young leaders for the future leadership of the ANC.
Scores of ANC Youth League (ANCYL) members from Ray Nkonyeni Municipality branches in Port Shepstone packed the Bhobhoyi Ward 23 community hall for a one-day political class recently.
The event was convened by the Bhobhoyi ANCYL branch leaders to equip the youth, named young lions, to fight off emerging political forces within Ray Nkonyeni ANC branches and within the Ugu District.
Bhobhoyi ANCYL branch chairperson Msizi Shozi said the idea of hosting a political class for members came up because of emerging political forces that could rattle the minds of young people, if they are not well-educated about politics of the ANC. “This is the purpose of this political class. We are here to learn about the history of the ANCYL and the basic tasks of the branch,” said Shozi.
The political class was attended by ANCYL regional leaders under the stewardship of chairperson, Zwelethu Njeza, and regional secretary Sanele Gumede Ogwini, who called for a disciplined ANCYL that must be grounded to help the ANC to win elections and be rewarded with job opportunities.
ANCYL provincial member Sicelo Xolo thanked the Bhobhoyi branch leaders for hosting a much needed political class to educate and groom young leaders for the future leadership of the ANC. “ANCYL is a political school for ANC leaders, it’s where ideas are discussed as to how the ANC must be led to better serve our society and the country. We need to strengthen our branches and be grounded. We also gathered here in memory of our former ANCYL leaders Peter Mokaba and Chris Hani as we celebrate their lives in April,” said Xolo
The ANC regional fundraiser Sikhumbuzo ‘Zero’ Mqadi delivered an informed political lecture to members, urging them to remain disiplined and active community mobilisers behind the ANC banner and to keep the party strong and grounded in the community.
“You have autonomy as an organisation, but your decisions must assist the ANC to be strong. You play an influential role in mobilising for the ANC as you ascend to lead it as its leaders. Thirty three years ago, Chris Hani and Solomon Mahlangu were murdered in April. May their souls rest in peace,” said Mqadi.
Mqadi stated that the ANCYL was founded in 1944 by the ANC which was founded in 1912 to fight for a united and democratic South Africa. “The ANCYL is autonomous but remains the brainchild of the ANC, and its decisions should not be against the ANC policy trajectory. The ANCYL needs to be disciplined and play an influential role to build a strong and united ANC. The founding president of the ANCYL was Peter Mokaba,” said Mqadi.
