Umbango temple observes Chitra Paruvam Kavady

Chitra Paruvam Kavady is the first kavady observed on the Tamil calendar.

The Umbango Sri Siva Soobramoniar Temple hosted its Chitra Paruvam Kavady at the temple grounds on May 1.

It is a sacred Tamil festival dedicated to Lord Muruga, observed on the full moon (Purnima) in the Tamil month of Chittirai (April/May).

Cohen Pillay, the temple’s vice-chairperson said the event was a spiritual and vibrant one. Devotees were blessed by the grace of Lord Muruga, which saw about 500 people in attendance and about 90 kavadies with milk pots.

“Devotees enjoyed our daily service, prasadam, and not forgetting our Kavady breyani which everyone looks forward to.”

The next prayer is Vikasi Visakam (birthday celebration of Lord Muruga) which will be observed on Friday, May 29 at 18:00.

Resident Priest Gurukkal Shivaan Sharma conducts all prayers – book readings, weddings and ceremonies. Contact him on 074 7644742.
