Gamalakhe beauty pageant entrant raises voice against GBV
Yolanda Skibi said the pageant is a step closer to the impact she has always envisioned to make in the country and globally.
Gamalakhe born and bred Criminal Justice and Law Enforcement graduate from the Nelson Mandela University, Yolanda Skibi, has her eyes set on the Miss African Beauty SA 2026 pageant.
Skibi (25) said she was driven to enter the contest to be a voice against gender-based violence (GBV).
“I am currently in the Top 30. As a law student, I’m using the pageant’s platform to advocate for stronger GBV accountability in our justice system . I come from a dysfunctional home and that’s exactly where my purpose was born. It’s why I chose to study law. I wanted to understand the systems meant to protect people because I know how critical they are,” said Skibi.

She added she is not just a product of her challenges, but that of her community. “The South Coast’s beauty, resilience, and unity shaped me into the woman I am today. This is a place filled with strength, love, and people who stand together, especially in the fight against GBV. That courage lives in me,” said Skibi.
According to Skibi the pageant is a step closer to the impact she has always envisioned to make in the country and globally. “It’s more than a pageant, it’s a movement. It aligns with my values, my story, and the change I want to drive. I took a leap of faith and dared to dream, and I’m proud to have been seen,” said Skibi.
