Polocrosse action in Paddock this weekend

THE Paddock Polocrosse Club, which has hosted a number of successful tournaments over the last few years, is now going bigger and better.
The club is gearing up to host the three-day South African interprovincial championships at the The Rust Bucket Oribi Museum, this Saturday, Sunday and Monday, August 8 to 10.
The cream of South African polocrosse players from all over the country, including members of South Africa’s champion world cup squad, will descend on the South Coast to take part in this prestigious championship. South Africa hosted the Polocrosse World Cup Championships at Durban’s Shongweni Club last month and the South African players claimed their second world cup, This means that Paddock spectators will be able to see world champions in action as the squad members play for their respective provinces.
Teams from Australia, USA, United Kingdom, Ireland, Zimbabwe, Zambia, New Zealand and South Africa took part in the world championships. South Africa took on Zambia in the final to determine the new world champs. An impressive game ensued with South Africa playing some brilliant polocrosse and winning by 32 points to 23 to earn the well-deserved world title.
The organisers of the Paddock tournament expect a field of at least 132 players in men’s and women’s divisions and in teams ranging from U14 to Open. A night-time PeeWee game will be played under floodlights on the Saturday night as the annual Paddock highlight. This will allow the club’s future stars a chance to shine and to show off their talents.With some spectacular polocrosse expected to be played, the tournament is not to be missed.
All South Coast families are urged to come along and enjoyed a family outing in the open air, in the scenic Oribi Gorge area. The residents of this area are renowned for their hospitality and spectators will be assured of a warm welcome. Delicious food will be on sale at Jeanie’s restaurant at the Bucket Bites Kitchen and the Rust Bucket Oribi Museum will offer bar facilities all weekend. There will be a jumping castle and play area for children.
