FISHING along our coast has really slowed down this past week, probably due to near perfect seas, hardly any working water, and no wind at all.
Not saying the fish aren’t there, they are. However, they are just not feeding, probably due to them spawning, especially the garrick.
Spearos are reporting seeing shoals of garrick, some as many as 20 plus in a shoal.
Two young spearos (unknown) ventured into the water off Margate pier and what they say was unbelievable: a shoal of about 60 kob – and all big ones.
They shot four, one came off the spear. The other three I would estimate to be around the 20kg mark.
So guys, the fish are there, we just need some consistent easterlies. Maybe this expected cold front will bring them on the bite.
Shad have gone extremely quiet but we need perfect conditions to improve fishing.
Now that August is here, we can expect lots of easterly winds and hopefully good fishing.
