Another championship title for Heather

The 2015 Citroen SA Championships were surfed at Alkantstrand in Richards Bay.

SOUTH Coast sportswoman and South Africa’s most successful woman surfer of all time, Heather Clark, has powered her way to another big win.

At the 2015 Citroen SA Championships at Alkantstrand in Richards Bay, she earned her eighth national title in the Open Women’s Division, beating national team member Faye Zoetmulder of Nelson Mandela Bay into second place. The 2014 U20 champion Emma Smith of Nelson Mandela Bay took third place and Tasha Mentasti came fourth.

With 11 new South African champions crowned, the winners of the Presidents Cup and the Masters Cup decided and the once-off Celebration Shield presented, the tournament ended on a high note after seven days of fierce competition, on Sunday last weekend. The Masters Cup was won for the ninth year in a row by Buffalo City. Both the Presidents Cup and the once-off Celebration Shield went to eThekweni.

The 2015 championships, a wonderful 50th anniversary celebration of the contest, ended on National Women’s Day, so it was fitting that women surfers dominated the proceedings. All but two of the final heats featured women surfers.
