THE Fidelity Security South Coast Warriors kept a clean sheet against the Newcastle Highlanders in their Junior Murray Cup quarter-final clash at Douglas Mitchell Sports Ground last Saturday.
The final score was 16-0, with tries scored by Tienie Viljoen and Jaques Petzer-Moore, who also kicked two penalties.
Man of the match awards went to Karel van Rooyen (flank) and Jaques Petzer-Moore (flyhalf).
“Karel was brilliant with the ball in hand and his defence was rock solid. He made it very difficult for Newcastle on the day. Jaques is a quality player and he handled the pressure very well, scoring 11 of the 16 points. His defence was outstanding and got the backline going. Excellent game,” said coach Christo Henderson.
Petzer-Moore provided what was probably a turning point in the game, intercepting a pass and running away to score – when he had been one-on-three in defence.
The Warriors now play Hillcrest in the semi-finals at Douglas Mitchell this Saturday at 2.30pm.
Should they win, the final will be played at Crusaders in Durban.
The seconds, who won 25-24 last Saturday, will play at 1pm.
In the other semi-final, Richards Bay host Vryheid.
“We will build on what we produced last weekend, and concentrate on making sure we implement our game plan properly next week,” said Henderson.
