Jaques, Chris shine at rugby Warriors’ awards evening

It was a time to reflect on what went well during the year.

THE South Coast Warriors Rugby Club wrapped up the season with an awards and dinner function recently.

Guest speaker Jacques Botes, the former Sharks flank, imparted words of wisdom for the players, and congratulated them on their efforts during the year.

Awards were as follows:

Most Improved: Lourens Stapelberg (firsts), Douglas Strachan (seconds), Msizi Mzindle (thirds), Cena (U20).

All heart: Lourens Stapelberg was the club's Most Improved player for the year.

Most Valuable: Juan van den Berg (firsts), Justus McCallaghan (seconds), Xolela Daniels (U20).

Most Points Scored: Chris Mitchell (firsts), Jurie Geldenhuys (seconds), Cayd du Toit (thirds), Tim Louw (U20).

Best All Round Player: Tienie Viljoen (firsts), Thomas Banner (seconds), Jeandré Pretorius (U20).

Rock solid: Tienie Viljoen was named Best All Round Player for the season.

Most Dedicated Player: Chris Mitchell (firsts), Johan Venter (seconds), Simpiwe Zulu (thirds).

Stirrer of the Year: Marcell Sass.

Always a chirp: Marcell Sass was voted Stirrer of the Year for 2015. The speedster was also the Sevens Player of the Year.

Best New Player: Tian Malherbe.

Best Defender: Chris Mitchell.

Most Promising Player: Karel van Rooyen.

Fantastic contribution: The Chairman's Award went to the Mitchell family this year. Receiving the award are (from left) Craig and Sandy and their son Chris. The live-wire scrumhalf also picked up awards for Most Dedicated Player, Most Points Scored and Best Defender.
