DOUGLAS Mitchell Sports Club wrapped up its squash championships for the year recently.
André Attfield, a local doctor, beat the up-and-coming Matt Redinger in the finals, 3-1.
Martin de Villiers beat Bruce Cunningham in the finals of the plate, 3-0.
Despite the scorelines, the finals were closely contested.
Matt won a long and drawn out first game, before André took control and won the next three.
He may have realised this was absolutely necessary and fitness-wise, he may have been in trouble had the match gone to a fifth set.

Bruce was in the wrong shape (round!) to beat a very fit Martin in the plate finals, however.
The annual general meeting was held thereafter, and André was voted in as chairman for the next year.
The committee comprises Andre Attfield (chairman), Roy Blignaut (treasurer), Martin de Villiers, Deon Els and Tracy Harris-Nelson.
