Raj Naganna mixes it up on the tennis courts again

RAJ Naganna (68) of Umtentweni Tennis Club is known for more than just his delicious chili bites. He is also racking up trophies on the country’s senior tennis circuit.

Recently, he teamed up with Cape Town’s Antula Markovitz to win the Eden Seniors’ mixed doubles in George.

Raj also won the men’s back draw (or plate, for first round losers.) His ranking is currently ninth but he is aiming for a top five before too long.

Tweni members would like to take this opportunity to wish all tennis players on the coast as well as the staff of the South Coast Herald a very blessed and happy Christmas.

With the weather settling down a bit, members and visitors, Mark Wesson and Rob Mackie as well as annual visitors from upcountry, Nico and Bernadette, enjoyed being on the courts again last Saturday.

Isabeau le Roux was on duty and provided the age-old favourites, sandwiches and scones, for tea.

Visitors to the coast are most welcome to join members on social days which are Wednesday and Saturday afternoons from 2pm.

Members are sorry to hear that Tisch Roos has hurt his right arm but he is making a valiant effort to do a ‘Nadal’ on us and play left-handed!

Well done, Tisch – you will soon be as formidable as you were with your right hand.

Several members have family visiting them. Reel Fincham’s granddaughter is down for a few days and Trish Wood has family out from Italy. Enjoy the precious moments together, all of you.

A group of women celebrated Chloe Dutton’s birthday with a lunch at Fish on the River. Belated greetings to Chloe for the 23rd and to Mary Wood for the 14th. Keep as active as you always are, you two. Jean Backhouse , back from Scotland for a while, joined in as well.

Congratulations to Louis and Jean Marx who celebrated their golden wedding anniversary on the 11th. May you be spared to enjoy many more happy years together.
