Father and son win
THE annual fund-raiser day at Southbroom Golf Club last Saturday was won by the father and son team of Bob and James Thomas.
They carded 48 points to count out Geoff Skelton and Dave Page, as well as Clive and Alister Miller.
In fourth spot on 47 points were Gordon and Steven Moody.
Three pairs scored 46 points, namely Chris Poole and Gary Purtell, Rob Nisbet and Frans Coetzee, as well as Chris Ledden and Urs Diethelm.
In the women’s section, it was Lynne Blackstock and Geraldine Treherne who took first prize on 47 points, by two from Wendy Huddy and Robyn van Ginkel.
In third were Rose Bishop and Joy Crutchfield on 44 points, with Rene Matthew and Julie Walker next on 41 points.
The previous Wednesday’s competition was won on 100 points by Brian Brasher, Derek Lawrence, Cleve Walker and Bob Thomas, who appears to be in sparkling form.
Runners-up on 98 points were Norman Farrell, Garth Strong, Mike Jacquet and Anthony Hughes, followed on 96 points by Mike Riemer, Nick Riemer, Barry Stott and Rob Williams.
In fourth spot were Darryl and Don Osbourn, Pip and Ernest Kemm.
In the women’s section, the winners were Lorraine Cook, Jean Corfe, Margaret Sherratt & Jan Germs on 86 points.
They were followed by Candida Amm, Lynn Blackstock, Louise Leal and Allyson Thomas on 84 points, who counted out Karen Bridgeford, Helen Strong, Gill Huddy and Joy Crutchfield.
Pierre dominates at Margate
TUESDAY’S alliance at Margate Country Club last week was won by Beryl Williamson, Evelyn Burls, Una McLachlan and Joan Minnaar on 88 points.
The Wobblers’ alliance the next day was won by Hans Beilhartz, Damion Buckley, Hans Dallinger and Nico van Vuuren on 94 points.
Pierre Malberbe dominated the pro shop comp, scoring 43 points to win by two from Angus McLachlan. In third place was Dries Taljard on 39 points.
Saturday’s comp was won by Dennis Bolt and Theuns Esterhuizen on 47 points, edging out Neil Townsend and Robbie Myburgh on 46 points, as well as John Webster and Robin Shuttleworth on the same score.
Steff is boss
STEFF le Roux won the competition at Port Edward Country Club last Wednesday on a score of 43 points.
He was one ahead of Roelf Craig, with Dennis Kockott in third place on 39 points, followed by Jackie van Eeden and Roy Watkins on 37 points.
Saturday’s comp saw Frank Carr and Bobby Wagner clean up on 52 points, by four from Rodney Louw and James Fergus.
In third place on 46 points were Fellow Albertyn and Allan Stead.
DJ Stoppy on song
PETER Stoppel, aka DJ Stoppy, and Brett Pollington won Port Shepstone Country Club’s Wednesday comp on 48 points, pipping Jacky van Heerden and Greg Hornby by one point.
Saturday’s betterball saw Kevin Hently and Gerhard Labuschagne take first prize on 47 points, edging out Leon Reeders and Brett Pollington.
In third were Lourens Cronje and Christo Woest on 45 points.
This Saturday sees the opening round of the Auto Exec Monthly Mug/Cellar Cup.
Play in the Closed
THE Southern KwaZulu-Natal Closed will be played over 36 holes at Port Shepstone Country Club on Sunday, January 17.
The sub-union’s AGM will follow the golf, at around 4.30pm.
