Wayne’s World: Set those personal running goals

The club's AGM is around the corner.

THE stretch of road that runs parallel to the ocean between Uvongo and Manaba Beach called Lilliecrona Boulevard was turned into a walkers’ and runners’ paradise throughout the festive season.

Record numbers were seen pounding the flat stretch of asphalt on a daily basis.

I was very fortunate to meet up with a few of our visiting athletes, and every one of them had their own personal goals or aims, ranging from weight loss, general fitness to training for their first 21km or marathon.

Not one of them put it to me that it was fun, although running or walking did become addictive.

The beginning of each year is when most clubs reopen for re-registration.

South Coast Striders is no exception, so by the time you read this article they would have reopened their doors for 2016.

Registrations take place at the clubhouse in Edward Avenue, Uvongo every Wednesday from 5pm.

Past and new members are urged to apply either by attending the club on a Wednesday evening or by simply emailing Michelle at michwridgway@gmail.com.

The club AGM will take place on Wednesday, January 20 at 6pm.

Members are urged to attend as a new committee will be elected at that meeting.

We look forward to sharing a jam-packed year of pain, sweat and a couple of joyful tears.

Remember, ever stride counts.
