JOURNALIST and photographer Jacques Sellschop of Marina Beach usually trains his lenses on wildlife but he had great fun recently taking surfing photographs at Southbroom.
Although Jacques fears the purists might sniff at his creative image of bodyboarder Ruan de Beer, it is a particularly striking photograph and the South Coast Herald was thrilled when he offered it for publication.
Asked how he produced the image, he offered three easy – if tongue-in-cheek – steps for dummies on how to create a similar photograph.
“First place front-loader washing machine on rocks within sight of surfers. Plug in extension cord.
“Lie photographer down in drum with head and camera sticking out. Set spin cycle on gentle speed for nylon underwear.
“When surfer comes past, assistant hits the switch and the photographer hits the shutter release on continuous action,” he advised
He added that the results defined the meaning of unique as they were totally unpredictable, with no two images ever quite the same.
Just don’t try his method at home.
