‘War on the Shore 2’ a major hit at the Wild Coast
The thrilling fights made the event a memorable one.
‘WAR on the Shore’ 2 championship boxing returned to the Wild Coast Sun on Friday last week.
Kalakoda Promotions brought back yet another thrilling night of action where the best fought the best, big names in the game going head to head . The jam-packed event made it quite clear that South Coasters have fallen in love with the sport.
The event featured fighters from the Democratic Republic of Congo as well other talented fighters from Cape Town, Eastern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal.
In the first fight of the evening, competing for the featherweight division, Thembani Mabangatha of Cape Town put out Richards Bay favorite Siphamandla Ndlozi in four rounds. Mabangatha won 2-2-1 by way of a knockout.
Luyanda Nkwankwa from Cape Town, rated number three in the country and Eastern Cape champion, Mzwabantu Dabaza, rated number 5, saw Nkwankwa, the former WBA Pan Africa mini flyweight and WBF world mini flyweight champion, win 9/10 by way of a knockout.
The heavyweight clash between both DRC boxers didn’t really live up to expectations as both boxers seemed unfit for the challenge.
Maitre Motratina, best known as ‘The Knife’ won through a fifth round disqualification against Mugaben Mudimba for headbutting.
Sabelo Nqebinyane from Cape Town, also rated fourth in the country, stopped the ever dangerous Lwandile ‘Marvellous’ Phillip from Uitenhage in the second round by way of a knockout.
In the supporting bout, Jayden Matthew from Chatsworth, rated sixth, remained unbeaten after six fights when he drew against DRC’s Didier Nyembe.
The super thriller was between KZN provincial welterweight Marcel Botha, son of former IBF heavyweight champion Francois ‘the white buffalo’ Botha, and Ayanda Mthembu from Durban, trained by well known father and son group ‘Thulani Mzwi’. Mthembu won the fight in a seventh round knockout.
Steve Kalakoda, of Kalakoda Promotions, said the next Wild Coast Sun event was scheduled for April 15. ‘War on the Shore 3’ will feature Osborne ‘[Big Daddy’ Macimani, from Limpopo, against Ugandan boxer Kizito ‘The Xterminator’ Ruohamnye for the BED Africa heavyweight title.
