‘Grab a granddad’ golf a hit
There's never a dull moment when the senior women and Sages team up.
THE Senior Women Golfers LSC had their first game for the year at San Lameer Country Club recently.
It was a fun game where the SWG players got to ‘grab a granddad’, ie: one of the Sages.
The women admitted that the Sages had some ‘gorgeous granddads’ indeed!
Winners on 89 points were Cecelia Verster, Annie Stoppel, Keith Simonsen and Dave Parsons (absent on photo).
In second place on 86 points were Angus McLaughlin, Una McLaughlin, Sandy Fitzgerald and Julie Walker, followed on 84 points by Piet Ludick, Greg Litkie, Marie Robinson and Annette Thorold.
Fourth place on 83 points went to Evelyn Burls, Beryl Williamson, Eddie Horn and Coen Griesel.
A touch of Egypt and music
CHRISTA Sistermanns and Sandy Fitzgerald won the women’s comp at Southbroom Golf Club last Wednesday on 46 points.
In a tie for second on 41 points were Ruth Mosburger and Mari Fielden, as well as Jenny Westray and Sandy Luus .
Geraldine Treherne and Shelley Myers were fourth on 40 points.
In the men’s division Colin McKay and Gary Purtell won on 46 points, one ahead of Charlie Watt and Bernie Vorster, Gordon Moody and Kerry Fielden, and Roy Deakins and Roger Hissey.
The Pharaoh Construction Shootout (a new sponsor) saw Dries Barkhuizen, Patrick Mavundla, Edwin Steyn and Johan Erasmus hold their nerve in the five-way play-off.
In second were Nic van Deventer, Doug Milne, Doug Butcher and Barclay Shearer, followed by Derek Egerton, Doug Johnston, Greg Hornby and Hendry Kotze.
In fourth place were Sean van Heerden, Wayne Molyneaux, Des Wichmann and Brendon Saunders, followed by Gordon Moody, Brian Brasher, Kerry and Mari Fielden.
Saturday was Mozart Day for the women, a competition enthusiastically organised by Irene Schanda.
Winners were Sandy Fitzgerald and Lori Martin on 46 points, two ahead of Lan Yeadon and Joy Crutchfield.
On 43 points were Jeanette Peyios and Sandy Luus, one clear of Shelley Myers and Mari Fielden. In fifth place on 40 points were Carol Lamb and Nicci Negra.
The men’s comp was won by Titch Peyios and Dave Page on 53 points, six ahead of Russell Johnson and Emil Hierhold, as well as Stuart Janvier and Arthur Lee on 47.
In fourth spot on 46 points were Roger Phillips and Jonathan Shaw.
Various winners at Port Edward
JAMES Fergus won the individual Stableford at Port Edward Country Club last Tuesday on 38 points, by two from Rodney Lowe.
Wednesday’s comp was won by Martyn Nagtegaal on the same score, three ahead of Frank Carr and Pat McCormick.
Frank went one better on Friday and won the Chicken Run on 17 points, counting out Johan Greeff.
Saturday’s alliance was dominated by Johan Greeff, Fellow Albertyn, Liz Pratten and John Fourie.
They scored 127 points to win by four from Martyn Nagtegaal, Roelf Craig, Rowan Schoeman and Jan Kinghorn.
Thanks to Liz Pratten for all her hard work in tidying up and planting new gardens.
The Farmers’ Classic Betterball Stableford will be played on February 20.
Superb scoring at Sheppie
THERE was some great scoring at Port Shepstone Country Club last week.
Rob Piers had a blinder, carding +8 to win the bonus bogey last Saturday. Kim Strauss was the runner-up on +7, counting out Lionel Peters.
Abel Yeeranna was fourth on +6, followed by Johann du Plessis on +5.
Four players had +4, namely Craig Lindsay, Rob Harrison, Ernst Meier and Paul Geoffery. Kevin Loring wrapped up the tenth spot on +3.
The previous Wednesday’s comp was won by Smittie Stieger on nett 67, one clear of Rickie Naidoo on nett 68. Peter Stoppel was third on nett 70.
Pro Vision AGM soon
PRO Vision Golf and Social Club will hosts its ninth annual general meeting at Port Shepstone Country Club this Sunday, January 31 at 2.30pm.
The golf will tee off at 8am, followed by the AGM and then a braai.
