Rare double for Sheppie league teams
WELL DONE to Port Shepstone for winning the men’s Saturday Second League and promotion to next season’s First League.
Good luck to everyone playing in the Specsavers’ Pro 10 this coming weekend.
Will all clubs please fill in the Bowls South Africa (BSA) survey handed out at the council meeting and return same to Carol McMullin.
Please inform your green keepers that Bryan Hart (BSA green keepers’ standing committee), will be visiting The Bell on February 13 at 9.30am.
There will be an open discussion on any matters regarding greens. He will also bring an update on all the latest developments, so encourage your green keeper to attend.
The 300 Club draw results are as follows: R50 draws went to Ian Kalil, Betty Bell, Peter Giblin and Ken Hills.
R100 draw was won by Kobie Stander while the R200 went to Cedric Glanfield.
R300 was won by Val Kirkbright, R500 went to Estelle Carter and Ellen Cawker won the R1000.
BANNERS REST
THE inaugural Wild Coast Golden Moon Spur mixed trips played last Wednesday was won by Aubrey Hood, Leoni Booth and Dice Graaff.
Runners-up were Glen Allen, Maureen La Grange and Andreas van der Linde.
First session went to Rob Lyle, Pippa Rowney and Derek Wicks, second session to Rod and Mary Phelps with John Meyer, and 50/50 board to Estelle Carter.
The next sponsored competition is the GP Security mixed pairs on February 5. The entry form for the KBA mixed pairs (closing date February 15) is on the notice board.
Join members at the Breezeway on Friday, February 5 at 6.30pm for a fun quiz evening (teams of four).

WINNERS of the Manaba Kwikspar women’s 2-4-2 played last Friday were Pam Cole-Cook and Vi Pells.
Runners-up were Leoni Booth and Estelle Carter. Session to Rae Barber and Pauline Dunlop.
The Uvongo Spar open pairs is tomorrow (29th) and the Margate Panel Beaters’ men’s 2-4-2 next Friday (5th).
The annual Jacks and Jills tournament will be held on February 7. Men to bring eats for tea and there will be a bring and braai afterwards.
‘Twilight Bowls’ will commence on Friday, February 5 at 4pm.
The next quiz evening will be held in the clubhouse on February 17.

MARGATE CC
BARRY Delvin, Rassie Erasmus, Jimmy Holtshausen and Charles Murgatroyd won the first of 10 games in the Engel and Volkers men’s fours ladder competition.
In second place were Shane Nienaber, Dieter Schulz, Ian Hutton and Ross Ferguson. Third spot went to Rod Phelps, Peter Bennett, Brian Cole-Cook and Ron Camps.
The 50/50 draw was won by Hans Wijtman. Duty – Eileen Lloyd, Val Erasmus and Barry Herbert.
PORT EDWARD
THE Sebenza Nursery trips winners were Glen Allen, Jimmy McAllister and Ann McAllister.
Runners-up were Piet Heunis, Val Smith and Rina Fourie and the session winners were Dan Delaney, Hazel Delaney and Phillippa Rowney.

PORT SHEPSTONE
THE monthly business day. sponsored by Ryan Pretorius of Rhino Truck Sales, took place in pleasant but hot conditions last Friday.
Winners this time around were The Pirates team of Dave Price, Graham ‘Woody’ Wood, Jimmy Holtzhausen and Sandra Price.
Runners-up were the Quinns Coconut Oil team of Don Russouw, Jane Massyn, Sandy Shepherd and Alan Booth.
Saturday League results were favourable with the A side winning 5-0 away at Hibberdene.
They are second but now only three points behind The Bell. They play at home against The Bell in two weeks’ time in what could be the decider for league honours.
The B side played The Village in the play-off for promotion at Riverside. The result was 3-2 in favour of PSCC and the B side will now play in premier league next season.

THE drawn mixed pairs play-off was postponed due to rain. The Food Lovers Market mixed 2-4-2 is this Friday (29th).
The Cupboard Value Valentine’s Day competition is on February 14. Open 2-bowl trips, R60 per team, includes breakfast and snacks.
Tabs in Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays at 1.30pm for 1.45pm. Prospective bowlers welcome on Saturdays, flat soled shoes, bowls will be provided.
SOUTHBROOM
CHRIS Faber, Kobus Faber and Trebla Lansdell won the Tiago’s men’s trips last Tuesday. Runners-up were Barry Christie, Hein Bester and Bill Reed.
First session to David James, Nico Mantoan and Wynand Bezuidenhout; second session to Bill Brown, Barry Herbert and Mike Berry. 50/50 Barry Herbert.
Valentine’s Day is fast approaching so take out your red shirts, shorts and whatever else and come and join in the celebration on Sunday, February 14 for some fun bowls followed by a colourful bring and braai.
Time 8.30am for 9am. Please bring a salad as well to share with everyone.
SOUTHPORT
RYNIER van Tonder, Don Russouw and Richard Cochman won the Dr D’Arcy men’s trips played last Thursday.
Runners-up were Alan Jacobs, Duncan Randall and Hew Hodgson. Second session prize to Brian Marriott, Fanie Strydom and Artur Lopes.
The Suzuki sponsored mixed trips played on a 3-2-1 basis last Sunday was reduced to one round of 10 ends as the heavens opened with a deluge of rain, which was much welcomed by our green, but placed a damper on the tournament.
Winner’s prizes were awarded to Peter Maggs, Pat Maggs and Peter Clark, while second place went to Mike King and Richard and Kitty Cochman. Third place went to Brian Marriott, Bob Moroney and Maunie Beckerling.
The women’s trips sponsored by Harbour View SuperSpar will be played today (28th).
Much excitement is being generated by the ‘cricket’ game which is being arranged between Southport and Umtentwini for Sunday, February 7.
Whilst a wonderful attitude exists between the two clubs, no quarter will be asked or given in determining which club comes out on top.
THE BELL
SANDY van Niekerk and Phil Viljoen won the Fruit & Veg City 2-4-2 last week, followed by Louw Vermeulen and Charmaine van Deventer. The session prize went to John Chamier and Gail Kuyper.
The mixed trips will be played this Friday (29th). Entry form is on the board.
Club bowls are played every Wednesday and Saturday afternoon and Sunday mornings. There will be a bring and braai after bowls this Sunday (31st). Visitors welcome.
TWENI
THE Wimpy women’s pairs played last Thursday was won by Michelle Vermeulen and Anne-Mare Giblin.
Runners-up were Sharolyn Dacey and Charmaine van Deventer and second session winners were Marie Pick and Maureen Vorster.
The battle of the sexes played on Saturday was enjoyed by all and was won by the men (again!).
The winning individual team was Jacques Snyman, Peter Browning and Charles Murgatroyd. In second were Tony Korb, Derick Celliers and Mike Findlay.
The next competition will be the South Coast Herald men’s pairs on Tuesday, February 2 in the morning.
VILLAGE
CONGRATULATIONS to Port Shepstone for winning the men’s Saturday League on a shot difference. Bad luck to the Village.

Well done to Bill Latham and Clive Bignell who narrowly beat Brian Hughes and Ivan Hosken, and to Hazel Hosken and Dawn Oehley who overcame Rosemary Esterhuysen and Monica Middlewick, to become the club’s doubles champions for 2015.
The Midweek League starts in March and entries must be in by end of January. Please give teams to Hazel now.
