Important date change for bowlers
ALL district players for 2016 are to please note, that due to unforeseen circumstances, the KBA Colours’ Day and Players’ AGM will now take place at Margate Bowling Club on Sunday, February 28 and not the 14th as shown in the diary.
The executive apologises for any inconvenience caused. There will be braai facilities for those who wish to bring and braai after the game.
A reminder that the closing date for both the midsummer mixed fours and mixed pairs is February 15. All district players are required to each put in a team for the midsummer tournament.
After a sweltering weekend for the SpecSavers Pro 10 Tournament, Port Shepstone’s Eddie Fann and Roy Anderson were the deserved winners, with The Bell’s Barry Delvin and Rassie Erasmus runners-up.
Congratulations and the best of luck to all four for the national SpecSavers’ tournament later in the year.
The executive would like to thank the clubs involved for their time and effort put in over the weekend and Hibberdene for hosting the finals on Monday.
BANNERS REST
WINNERS of the GP Security mixed pairs played last Wednesday were Peter Bennett and Amorie Schoëler, with runners-up Aubrey and Penny Hood.
Second session went to John Keppler and Janet Venter, and the 50/50 board to Val Smith.
Next sponsored competitions are the GP Security mixed pairs tomorrow (5th), the Tops Port Edward men’s pairs this Sunday (7th), and the SuperSpar Port Edward two bowl mixed trips next Wednesday (11th).
Birthday wishes go to Steve Rennie (5th) and Aubrey Hood (9th).
HIBBERDENE
AS the competition last Friday was not the usual nominated mixed trips, drawn pairs were played which were won by Eddie Milne and Werner Mody.
Second were Jan Oosthuizen and Bubbles Bezuidenhout. Session went to Callie Quinn and Chris Snyman. Special thanks to Chris Shone of Harcourts Scott Bay.
Lucky draw winners were Frances Raymond, Arthur Seager and Roger Burwood.
The club hosted two days of the SpecSavers Pro 10 last weekend. This was in the form of two bowl pairs. Nine teams of section two played and some very good bowls was witnessed.
Due to publishing times the results of the semi-finals and finals were not available.
The next competition is the nominated mixed trips this Friday (5th), sponsored by Tiago’s.
MARGATE BC
WELL done to Ellen Cawker and Jessica Henderson for reaching the semi-finals of the Pro10 tournament and Pam Cole-Cook and Vi Pells for reaching the quarter-finals.
Congratulations are extended to Eddie Fann and Alan Jacobson on their win.
The winners of the Uvongo Spar open pairs were Ron Canning and Yvonne Bausek. Runners-up were Alan and Alison Dinning.
Session prizes to Bob Smith and Gerry Davey (1st) and Derek McKechnie and James Mitchell (2nd).
The next sponsored tournament is the Margate Panel Beaters men’s 2-4-2 this Friday (5th).
The annual Jacks and Jills tournament will be held this Sunday (7th). Men to bring eats for tea and there will be a bring and braai afterwards.
By popular demand twilight bowls will commence this Friday (5th) at 4pm.

MARGATE CC
DORA Vosloo, Georgie McKechnie and Helen Proctor won the Hopdens Manaba Spar open trips last week.
Runners-up were Martiens Olivier, Billy Eccles and Jo Olivier. Session prize went to Bill Brown, Barry Herbert and Dawn Oehley.
The lucky winner of the 50/50 draw for the first time was Sandi Ferguson.
The Valentine’s Day celebration will be on Saturday, February 13 at 2pm. Dress in red. Lots of prizes.

PORT EDWARD
WINNERS of the Indulgence Beauty Salon mixed pairs were Trevor Smith and Phillipa Rowney.
Runners-up were Denise Brass and Derek Wicks, and the session prize went to Peter and Sariena Ziervogel.
The green is in an extremely good condition, very inviting to play on.
Members are looking forward to the ‘Be My Valentine’ on February 12 at 4.30pm. Cost is R50 pp.

PORT SHEPSTONE
THE main event last weekend was the Pro10 tournament, with the play-offs being played at Hibberdene.
Congratulations to Eddie Fann and Alan Jacobson, along with Phil Myburgh and Mark Smith for making the play-offs.
RIVERSIDE
HEATHER Flyng and Ray Visser won the Food Lovers Market 2-4-2 last week, followed by Hazel Williams and Brian Muir.
Session winners were Olwen Gibbs and Leo Niese (1st) and Marie Rodgers and Jannie van der Nest (2nd).
Next competition is the Cupboard Value Valentine’s Day on February 14. It’s a two bowl trips, cost R180 per team which includes breakfast, cash prizes and snacks.

SOUTHBROOM
WHEW, but taking part in bowls competitions at this time of the year is not for the faint-hearted. The heat is really getting to all of us.
It is more like going down to the beach at the moment with the sunscreen, big hats, water bottles and what we wouldn’t do for a big umbrella!

Find your red attire and come and join in the fun next week Sunday (14th) at 8.30am for a Valentine’s Day competition and bring and braai.
Although civvies are allowed for tabs in please remember correct shoes must be worn and appropriate dress.
SOUTHPORT
THE in-house Fruit and Veg mixed pairs played last Tuesday was won by Brian Marriott and Jane Massam, while new members Richard and Ellen Gould were runners-up. Third prize went to Ann Barkway and Richard Cochman and the second session prize was taken by Don Russouw and Werner Mody.
The Harbour View Spar women’s trips played last Thursday were won by Maureen Head, Tina Barbour and Gail Newby.
Runners-up were Jane Massam, Shirley de Bruin and Annette Strydom, while the second session prize went to Susan Fourie, Angela Moorhouse and Nellie Casas.
Members are reminded that the twilight two bowls trips league continues this Friday (5th) at 3pm.
THE BELL
KEITH Harcombe, Charmaine van Deventer and Louw Vermeulen won the Orca mixed trips last week.
In second place were Leon Sander, Ricky Roberson and Desiree Krause. The session prize went to Lynne Bamber, Cindy McMurtry and Phil Viljoen.
The Jaxx open trips will be played next Tuesday (9th) and the Captain’s Anchor nominated fours next week Friday (12th).
The birthday tea will be held next Wednesday (10th) for those celebrating their birthdays during January and February.
Club bowls days are Wednesday and Saturday afternoons and Sunday mornings. Visitors welcome.
TWENI
RYNIER van Tonder, Jane Massyn, Don Russouw and Sandy Mason won the 3rd Avenue restaurant competition last week.
Runners-up were Eric Grierson, Derick Celliers, Molly Williams and Isobel Prenger, who is sadly leaving for pastures greener.
Session winners were Jacque Snyman, Jan Snyman, Sheenagh Dempster and Winnie Hess.
It is with great anticipation that we challenge Southport to a ‘cricket’ game this Sunday (7th) at 4pm, with hot dogs afterwards. for afters.
The next competitions will be the Harbour View SuperSpar in-house mixed pairs this Friday (5th) at 2pm and the Schooners mixed trips next Monday (8th) at 9am.
VILLAGE
THE ‘A’ green is looking good and is now available to start playing on again, but there will be no sponsored competitions until further notice when our clubhouse is completed.
Brian Hughes is going to run our club championships and is starting off with the handicapped singles. Please put your names on the list at the boma or in the board/tabs hut between the greens by February 13, or phone Brian at 039 3125177.
Tabs in are on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays at 1.30pm – and don’t forget the Boma Branch after bowls and for get-togethers on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 4pm.
