Bryan Hart, who is on BSA’s greenkeepers’ standing committee, will be visiting The Bell Bowling Club this Saturday, February 13 at 9.30am. Let Carol McMullin know ASAP if you will be attending.

Don’t forget the closing date is February 15 for the midweek league and midsummer mixed fours.

Each 2016 district player is required to enter a team for the midsummer tournament since it’s a fund-raiser for travelling expenses etc for the players.

BANNERS REST

THE GP Security mixed pairs played last Friday was won by Peter Bennett and Amorie Schoëler, with runners-up Sergio and Pat Ruperto.

Second session went to Rob Lyle and Helen Cock, and the 50/50 board to John Meyer.

Winners of the Tops Port Edward men’s pairs played last Sunday were Dave Hume and Leigh Warner, with runners-up Ray Martin and Rob Lyle. Placed third were John Keppler and Mac McKenzie.

The 50/50 board went to Ray Elders. Next sponsored competition is the Wild Coast Golden Moon Spur and Suzuki mixed trips on Wednesday, February 17.

HIBBERDENE

SOCIAL bowls takes place this afternoon (11th), followed by ‘Happy Hour’ with two pancakes for R10.

Trips last week were won by Danie and Annetjie Human, with Louise Shone. Second were Marie Coetzer, Chris Snyman and Alida Munnik.

Session prize was won by Jan and Helene Oosthuizen and Colleen Milne. Thanks to Tiago’s for sponsorship.

Hibberdene Pharmacy mixed trips this Friday (12th). Valentine’s dinner dance this Saturday (13th). A touch of red to be worn.

MARGATE BC

WINNERS of the Margate Panel Beaters men’s 2-4-2 last Friday were Ian Hutton and Alan Dinning, from Bill Brown and Rennie Geyer.

Sessions to Shane Nienaber and Dieter Scholz, and Louis Fouche and Reg Saunders. 50/50 board was won by Rennie Geyer.

The annual ‘Jacks and Jills’ tournament was held on Sunday with the men coming out on top by a very small margin.

The inaugural twilight league bowls held on Friday evening was a huge success and continues again this Friday starting at 4pm.

Quiz evening will be held in the clubhouse on February 17.

MARGATE CC

WELL done to the winners of our women’s fours competition, generously sponsored by The Hair Shoppe in Uvongo, namely Norma Louw, Olwen Gibbs, Chrissie Chancellor and Anjie Gold.

Runners-up were Kobie Stander, Eileen Lloyd, Marie Rogers and Winnie Hess. Winner of the draw was Ria van Vuuren.

The Valentine’s competition is this Saturday (13th) at 2.30pm. Duty: Kobie Stander, Dina and Hans van der Walt.

PORT SHEPSTONE

SUSAN Fourie, Pat Maggs, Charmaine van Deventer and Michelle Vermeulen won the South Coast Herald fours last week.

It is now played on the popular 4-3-2-1 point system which means there are 10 points up for grabs on each end played.

Runners-up were Roy Anderson, Lesley Lancaster, Kevin Lancaster and Robert MacArthur.

The Harbour View SuperSpar trips were won by Keith Mills, Tammy Gibbons and Charles Mugatroyd.

Runners-up were Phil Myburgh, Murray Ross and Robert MacArthur. Session prize went to Eddie Fann, Howard Frizelle and Caroline Harris.

Valentine’s Day bowls this Sunday (14th), in the morning. Come dressed in red and white.

PORT EDWARD

GAWIE Bosman, Gino Alilovic and Pat Brand won the 7th Heaven mixed trips last week, from runners-up Leigh Warner, Mac McKenzie and Jeanette Offer.

Session winners were Jokkie van Buuren, Marianne van Buuren and Estelle Carter. Board went to Grant Walton.

Happy birthday to Denise Brass for the 14th and to Derick Ott for the 18th.

The ‘Be My Valentine’ comp is this Friday at 4.30pm. Development Day is on February 27.

RIVERSIDE

THE Valentine’s Day open 2-bowl trips is this Sunday (14th). Cost is R180 per team, including breakfast, cash prizes, lucky draws and snacks. Bonus points for women in the team.

STEVE Rennie, Aubrey Hood, Glen Allen and John Keppler won the Mariners mixed fours last week.

Runners-up were John Sutton, Betty Bolton, Yvonne Bausek and Manny Rodrigues. First session to Shane Nienaber, Dieter Scholz, Barbara Brook and John Richards.

Second session to Ina Malan, Dereck Schorn, Carl Volker and Chris Allen. 50/50 Anjie Gold.

Valentine’s Day bring and braai this Sunday at 9am. Don something red and bring a salad to share. Remember to wear appropriate shoes.

SOUTHPORT

THE much-awaited cricket match played last Sunday afternoon against Tweni was enjoyed by all, with Southport winning by 90 runs.

Tweni has promised revenge and feel that they will have Southport’s measure in a return game.

The best all-rounder of the day was Jane Massam of Southport.

One of the Southport players tried to explain away a wrong bias by saying that he was trying for reverse swing but got the shiny side wrong. As he was supposed to be batting at the time the explanation was not considered plausible.

The South Coast Herald mixed pairs 2-4-2 will be played today (11th) and the HarbourView SuperSpar women’s trips will be held on the 18th.

On Saturday the normal ‘tabs in’ will be replaced by a pairs or trips draw depending on how many players are present, starting at 1.30pm. Prizes have been provided by Glenfair Butchery at the Southcoast Mall.

THE BELL

THE popular chicken and egg competition played last Sunday was won by Lynne Bamber, Ethne Holding and Peter Giblin with the closest winning score.

Second were Claude Ching, Stan Sackett and Brett Pollington with the best score on the eighth end.

The next sponsored competition will be the Fruit & Veg mixed 2-4-2 on February 16.

Tabs in are played every Wednesday and Saturday afternoons and Sunday mornings.

There will be a bring and braai this Sunday (14th) after bowls.

TWENI

JAN Huygen and Peter Anderson won the South Coast Herald men’s pairs last week, with Tom Sempel and Derick Celliers second. Session went to Steve Doran and Tony Aveyard.

The Harbour View SuperSpar sponsored mixed pairs was won by Peter and Gerda Clark, from Johnny Meyer and Jenny Graham. Session prize went to Pat Maggs and Peter Browning.

The mixed trips sponsored by Schooners Restaurant was won by Rynier van Tonder, Jane Massyn and Don Russouw. Second were Sharolyn Dacey, Steve O’Moore and Ann-Marie Giblin.

Session (lucky draw) went to Sheenagh Dempster, Jan Snyman and Nellis Hatting.

A board of enquiry has been set up to investigate a charge of match fixing in the controversial win by Southport in the inaugural ‘cricket’ match against us on Sunday.

Valentine’s Day bowls this Sunday (14th) from 3pm followed by a bring and braai. Dress code is red and white, green fee will be R10.

VILLAGE

‘A’ GREEN is looking good and is now available to start playing on again, but there will be no sponsored competitions until further notice when our clubhouse is completed.

Brian Hughes is going to run our club championships and is starting off with the handicapped singles.

Please put your names on the list at the boma or in the board/tabs hut between the greens by the 13th, or phone Brian at 039 3125177.

Tabs in are on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays at 1.15pm for 1.30pm and twilight bowls on Fridays at 2.45pm.
