THE first Monday of the month at San Lameer Country Club is ‘ladies day’.
February’s game saw 69 women play.
There was champagne and orange juice on arrival, with a mystery format seeing a pleasant twist being provided, where scores from certain holes were deducted from the final score.
Winners on 62 points were Anita Scheepers, Rina Rito, Lyn Meek and Sandi Johnston.
On 61 points were Joy Crutchfield, Helen Proctor, Sandy Luus and Jeannette Peyios, followed on 60 points by Hermine Bieber, Beate Smit, Maeve Mullane and Lan Yeadon.
Nearest the pins were Hermine Bieber (9th) and Sandi Johnston (16th).
Closest to pin for three on the 13th was Joy Crutchfield. The raffle was won by Linda Rybicki.
Butthead plays to his own beat
ROLY Shaw won the Bonus Bogey at Port Shepstone Country Club last Wednesday.
He scored +8 to pip Jackie van Heerden by one. In a tie for third on +4 were Greg Hornby and Brett Pollington.
Bevis ‘Butthead’ Fairbrother put in a superb performance last Saturday to win the Auto Exec Monthly Mug on nett 68.
“What a fluke, my putter worked for a change. I know I have a reputation for being the club’s worst putter. I’ve solved the mystery, now I just close my eyes,” he laughed.
He claims the earth tremor felt last Saturday was caused by the force of collective jaws dropping to the ground when he holed yet another putt!
Debi Stewart won the Stableford section on 39 points, by three from Jenny Hulley.
Division winners were Gavin van Wyk (A on nett 69), Fred van Zyl (B on nett 69) and Terry Kotze (C on nett 73).
The respective runners-up were Ganes Munsami (nett 72), Leon Reeders (nett 69) and John Bower (nett 73).
Graham Fabricius had the best gross, 74.
Shootout time at Southbroom
WELCOME to all those playing in the annual Southbroom International Shootout, which tees off this Friday.
Mary Carolan and Lorraine Cook won the betterball medal at Southbroom Golf Club last Wednesday.
They returned nett 62 to win by one from Candida Amm and Sandy Fitzgerald, as well as Geraldine Treherne and Jenny Westray.
In the men’s section Gary Purtell and Dix Vorster cleaned up on nett 59, followed on nett 60 by Joe Carolan and Barclay Shearer, as well as Chris and Tommy Poole.
Saturday’s alliance saw first place go to Sandy Luus, Jeanette Peyios, Jeanne Powell and Mary Carolan on 87 points.
In second place on 86 points were Ruth Mosburger, Lorraine Cook, Di Morris and Jill Lougery, followed on 85 points by Liz Shaw, Sharon Turnbull-Jackson, Lorna Johnson and Geraldine Treherne.
In the men’s comp, the winners were Dries Barkhuizen, Naude Barkhhuizen, Johann Erasmus and Don Scott on 96 points, on a countout from Derek James, Gerald Fitzgerald, Bob Thomas and John Fox.
Third went to Terry Davidson, Coert Brits, Malcolm Moorley and George Wright on 92 points.
Fireworks from Fanie at Margate
SANDI Johnston won last Tuesday’s comp at Margate Country Club on 36 points, edging out Lizzie Meyer by one point. Agnes Spielmann was third on 34 points.
The Wobblers’ alliance was won by Jim Finn, Dave Parsons and Louis Kuhn on 84 points, one ahead of Hans Dallinger, Otto Mutschler and Brian Jeffreys, who counted out Dolf Willemse, Frank Merrill and John Gibson.
Thursday’s comp saw Fanie Terblanche produce some fireworks en route to 43 points, six ahead of John Webster and Joe Espach.
Comfort Cool sponsored the business day last Friday, which was won by Craig Jolliffe, Johan Neethling, Jaco van der Wal and Heber de Beer on 103 points (all to count on holes 6 and 12).
In second spot on 101 points were Francois Goosen, Johan Wentzel, Riaan Croucamp and John Chapman, followed on 96 points by Elise Pretorius, Piet Pretorius, Frank Merrill and Rob McGill, who counted out Dries Barkhuizen, Johan Erasmus, Edwin Steyn and Frikkie van Zyl.
On Saturday, Sageran Pillay and Keegan Reddy carded 74 points to count out Louw van Niekerk and Fanie Terblanche. In third were Francois Goosen and Riaan Croucamp on 73 points.
The Connie Day betterball was won by Jane Davies and Barbara Jackson on 45 points, followed on 44 points by Jean Bevan and Sandi Johnston, as well as Wondra Bothma and Beryl Williamson.
