Don’t miss AGM this Sunday
A REMINDER to all past and present district players that the District Players’ Association AGM will take place at Margate BC this Sunday, February 28 at 9am.
After the AGM there will be short tea break followed by the 2016 district women playing a short game against their male counterparts, and then the formal team announcements and presentation of colours.
Braai facilities will be available for anyone who would like to bring and braai after proceedings.
BANNERS REST
JOE Ashworth, Val Smith and Dice Graaff won the Golden Moon Wild Coast Spur and Suzuki mixed trips last Wednesday.
Runners-up were Rod and Mary Phelps with John Meyer, and second session winners were Dave Hume, Vi Pells and Ally Weir. The 50/50 board went to Gae Gravell.
Next sponsored competitions are the GP Security mixed pairs on March 4 and the Tops Port Edward men’s pairs on March 6.
HIBBERDENE
MIXED trips last Friday were won by Bez and Bubbles Bezuidenhout, with Danie Human. Second were Maureen Jonker, Bruce Hoyer and Martin Rautenbach.
Session went to Tammy Gibbons, Tony Aveyard and Marie Pick. Thanks to Re/Max for the sponsorship.
Happy hour (or two) will be held at the club today (25th) at 4pm. Supper will be served, all welcome.
MARGATE BC
FRANCI Philpott and Trish Bell won the Manaba Kwikspar women’s last week, runners-up were Kobie Stander and Winnie Hess. Session prize to Barbara Brook and Sandy Ferguson.
The third round of the popular twilight league was completed last Friday. The top five are Yvonne Bausek, Barry Mollett, Roy Baker, Vicki de Beer and Lenie Geyer.
Sunday morning bowls bring and braai this Sunday (28th), after a morning of fun bowls starting at 8.30am. Bring your own meat and a salad to share.
Duties: office – Lenie Geyer; tea – Barbara Iceton and Brenda Smith.
MARGATE CC
DAVE Hume, Ron Camps, Glen Allen and John Keppler won the second round of the Engel & Volkers men’s fours comp last week. Runners-up were John Sutton, Allan Tyers, Gary Hess and Ken Hills.
In third place were Neels Boshoff, Graham Fisher, Hans Wijtman and Danny Terblanche. The first four positions on the ladder are the teams of Rod Phelps, Barry Delvin, Hans Wijtman and Steve Rennie.
Bring and braai this Saturday (27th) after the tabs. Duty – Jill Brent, Ria Botha and Clive Edmundson.
NOMADS
SOME 30 players, including seven visitors, played in the monthly game at Margate Country Club last Sunday.
First place went to Franci Philpott, Allan Dinning, and Hans van der Walt. In second place were Annette Payne, Yvonne James and Hennie Vermeulen.
Sportsman’s prize to Betty Bolton, Maree Rogers and Dave Slippers. The ‘spider’ saw R180 raised, which went to SPCA. The next outing is at Southbroom on March 8.
PORT EDWARD
THE Top’s Crossing mixed trips winners were Barry Payn, Trevor Smith and Philippa Rowney. Runners-up were Rod Phelps, Janet Venter and Mary Phelps.
Session winners were Andreas van der Linde, Maureen La Grange and Ally Weir. Board was won by Mac McKenzie.
PORT SHEPSTONE
THE Bell team, namely Duncan Randall, Hew Hodgson, Renzo van Niekerk and Dave Schlebusch won the business challenge last week, sponsored by Riversmead Poultry Farm.
Riversmead provided prizes and much-needed liquid refreshment on a gloriously sunny afternoon. Runners-up were Phil Myburgh, Murray Ross, Howard Frizelle and Dave Mee.
In league, the A side is in second place on 31 points, with The Bell on top with 36 points.
The last round is this coming Saturday. Even if Port Shepstone gets a full house of five points, only a tie is possible, and The Bell has a better shot difference.
RIVERSIDE
THE Food Lovers Market mixed 2-4-2 is this Friday (26th). Tabs in on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays is at 1.30pm. Prospective bowlers welcome on Saturdays, flat soled shoes must be worn.
SOUTHPORT
DON Russouw, Shirley de Bruin and Bob Macfarlane won the Serene Care mixed trips last Sunday.
The Dr D’Arcy men’s trips are due to be played today (25th). The Fruit & Veg in house pairs will be played on Monday (29th).
Two bowl trips in the twilight league will continue on March 4. Greens have played a little slower after recent heavy rains, and use of the heavy roller.
THE BELL
THE Orca mixed trips will be played this Friday (26th). There will be a cocktail party for all members this Saturday (27th) in the afternoon. Time to be announced.
Tabs in are played every Wednesday and Saturday afternoons. A bring and braai will be held this Sunday after morning bowls. All welcome.
TWENI
RAIN washed out the Harbour View SuperSpar mixed pairs last Thursday. It will be rescheduled for later in March.
The Wimpy women’s pairs is today (25th) at 9am, and the South Coast Herald men’s pairs on Tuesday, March 1 at 9am.

Handicap singles finals is this Saturday (27th) at 3pm. Tabs in reverts to 2pm from March 1.
