Burry Stander junior MTB series launched

MANDIE and Charles Stander should take a bow for the great development work they continually do every week for the children in the area.

Last Friday Mandie officially launched the Burry Stander South Coast School Mountain Bike Series. Although attendance at the launch was poor, Mandie said that this event was introduced to teach schoolchildren to advance their cycling skills. “The park is the perfect place to learn as there are many different areas to hone your skills,” she said.

“There are similar series that take place in Gauteng and Durban, but many will find it extremely costly to attend those, therefore we decided to host one on home soil.”

She has an incredible team of young people who help her and they are also part of her team which participates in local mountain bike events.

“You can clearly see they are also from the local community as the schoochildren had huge respect for them, they listened eagerly when they were being spoken to about all that was required of them throughout the day.

“Our series is a simple formula where everyone is allowed a chance to practise and participate in this initiative that consists of eight rounds from February to September.” Burry’s dad, Charles, thanked all the schoolchildren for their attendance.

“I want to welcome all the cyclists – this is your day. When you begin this race, just remember that Burry came from this part of the world and that he would be proud to see you starting off cycling and enjoying the sport in your community like everybody from all over the world,” he said.

Parents agreed that the launch of the Burry Stander South Coast School Mountain Bike Series was amazing to watch and competitive all the way to the finish line. “The park is growing from strength to strength and I think we are really going to see some very competitive mountain bikers coming out of this district soon,” said one parent.
