Busy time for Blue Ocean swimmers
The club placed fifth out of 27 clubs in the level 1 championship and 12th in the Level 0 championships gala.
BLUE Ocean Aquatics swimmers recently took part in the SSA Grand Prix Port Elizabeth, Level 0 provincial championships, level 1 provincial championships and KZN masters provincial championships.
Samantha Labuschagne took part in the SSA Grand Prix where she came second in the 50m backstroke and third in the 100m backstroke.
In the Level 0 championship, Liandie du Toit walked away with six gold medals and huge improvements in her times, as well as a bronze medal in the 200m freestyle in the 13 and under event. She is still only 10 years old.
Erin Heydricks won a silver medal in the 50m freestyle and bronze medals in the 50m backstroke and breaststroke events.
Mandy Koegelenberg, Blue Ocean Aquatics coach, competed at the KZN masters provincial championship.
She won silver in the 200m freestyle, gold in the 50m backstroke and 100m freestyle, and bronze in the 200m backstroke.
Level 1 championships also took place this weekend with 10 swimmers taking part from the club.
Marnu Koekemoer won gold medals and broke records in the 50m freestyle, 100m freestyle, 50m backstroke and 200m backstroke. He then went on to win silver in the 100m breaststroke.
Milla Drakopoulos won gold in all her events and broke all the records in these events too.
With this outstanding performance she also was able to qualify for level 2 as a nine year old.
The events she won were 50m, 100m and 200m freestyle, and the 50m and 100m backstroke.
Kayla Heydricks won gold and broke the 100m backstroke record and also picked up silver medals in the 50m and 200m backstroke events.
Olivia Hulley won the 100m breaststroke and broke the meet record, and then earned bronze in the 50m and 200m breaststroke and 50m butterfly.
Ava-Mae Lilje won gold medals in the 50m, 100m and 200m freestyle, and 50m backstroke.
She was also able to break records in the 50m and 100m freestyle, and 50m backstroke. Ava also swam a qualifying time for level 2 at this meet.
Nelzaan Strydom won a gold medal in the 400m freestyle and silver in the 200m freestyle.
Tamara Venter won bronze in the 400m freestyle.
Winé Koekemoer and André Steyn both had great improvements in their swims.
Blue Ocean Aquatics relays won gold in the 13 year old freestyle relay, 11 year old mixed relay and 13 year old girls’ medley.
