IF you are wondering what King Kong, Queen and Waterworld have in common, take a look at the route for the South Coast Tourism Lake Eland Xtreme,
You will notice that they are the names of some of the many challenges entrants will face when they do this inaugural enduro race in the Oribi area on March 5, starting at 8am.
According to the organisers, two track prep rides have already been done, with support from local riders Matt Langton, Ryan Pretorius and Gary Neethling.
More than 200 competitors from all over South Africa, including some top international riders like Wade Young, have entered. The spectator value of this race is undeniable and day visitors will be encouraged to come along and cheer on the riders.
Race director Klint Mills thanked them for their unwavering help to make to this a South Coast’s must-do events for many years to come. Thanks to their efforts first 30km of the South Coast Tourism Lake Eland Game Reserve Big5Xtreme track had been officially completed.
The route starts with a 4×4 track down to the bottom of the valley, followed by a short hill climb. From there riders will experience a drop down to Red Rock, which is short but highly technical. There is also a fast trail section through trees, then a semi-dry river bed before riders encounter the Mahlabathini, Baboons, King Kong, Queen and Waterworld obstacles. Preparations are under way to complete the next 15kms of the track.
Klint thanked all the volunteers, communities and sponsors for their support, Oribi Farmers Association for its assistance and to the Dunstone family of Lake Eland for the venue.
